Former New York Jets coach Rex Ryan to compete in The Amazing Race

Rex Ryan has toured the football world, including a stint as head coach of the New York Jets, leading the franchise to two consecutive appearances in the AFC Championship game in the 2009 and 2010. Now he’s going around the world in what might be his biggest challenge yet.

Ryan, 59, will join his golf buddy and probation officer Tim Mann as they star in season 34 of the epic CBS reality show The Amazing Race. They will be one of 12 teams competing in the new season, which could be the most brutal season ever, as there will be no knockout stages.

Ryan and the other competitors will experience a first for The Amazing Race, as this will be the first season in which the race will begin outside of the United States. The starting line for this season will be in Munich, Germany, which is also the site of the NFL’s first game in Germany on November 13 when the Seattle Seahawks take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Will Ryan and Mann take flight in this race and claim the $1 million prize? Or will the competition prove too much for the former leader of Gang Green?

The Amazing Race 34 premieres Wednesday, September 21 at 10:00 p.m. ET.
