Eagles announce seven moves ahead of WFT game

The Philadelphia Eagles have officially announced seven hits ahead of their Week 17 game against the Washington soccer team. An overview:

  • DE Derek Barnett has been on reserve / COVID-19.
  • LB Shaun Bradley has been demoted to OUT.
  • DE Cameron Malveaux and LB JaCoby Stevens were brought up from the practice squad.
  • WR KeeSean Johnson and CB Craig James have been placed on the training team’s COVID list.
  • K Matt McCrane has been signed on to the practice squad.

Let’s sort it out, player by player.

REMOVALS NOT CARRIED OUT

The Eagles haven’t raised Jason Huntley or Kerryon Johnson from the practice squad, indicating they are confident Jordan Howard can play in Washington. With Miles Sanders absent, there are only Howard, Boston Scott and Kenneth Gainwell as the only three active running backs. Scott could be the favorite to lead the team in carry.

DEREK BARNETT

Barnett was placed on the COVID list earlier this week. After being absent from the squad and missing practice, his role against Washington might be a bit more limited than usual. The Eagles could look to spin five defensive fins instead of the usual four.

SHAUN BRADLEY

Bradley was involved in a crash on Saturday morning and the Eagles are preventing him from playing on Sunday for precautionary reasons. Bradley only recently returned to the team after being on the COVID list. His absence affects the depth of the Eagles at linebacker and special teams.

CAMERON MALVEAUX

With Barnett just returning from the IR, the Eagles want to go deeper in defense. Malveaux showed some positive flashes in a small sample against New York last week. He may be better equipped to contribute than Ryan Kerrigan is at this point. Malveaux provides a boost to Philly’s passing rotation.

JACOBY STEVENS

Sunday will make his regular season debut on Sunday. The rookie call is linked to Bradley’s exclusion.

KEESEAN JOHNSON and CRAIG JAMES

Johnson and James are the latest additions to the training squad’s COVID roster, bringing the Eagles to four players.

MAT MCCRANE

The Eagles first signed McCrane to their practice squad last weekend. He’s back for now to give Birds more depth on the kicker / punter.
